Artists Comments: Workshop with Darrell Hill. Attempted to paint on a large canvas. Started with an acrylic wash but soon learned that the key to a successful wash is to allow it to dry before starting to paint. Without mastering the basics of color mixing, layering and brushwork; I had a real challenge with this piece. Paint is thick and I went over areas multiple times to try to achieve the look I was hoping for. At Darrell's suggestion, I decided to keep it small and focus on mastering the basic skills of oil before attempting another large piece.
