Artists Comments: This particular area of
Kaloko Ponds inspired me for the soft carpet of grass that rolled over the lava field reminiscent of photos I have seen of Ireland (the motherland). The sun cast highlights that danced across the tips of the rolling grass field while the dark lava and ocean provided a stark contrast. My challenge was to find a technique that allowed me to highlight a particular highlight stronger than any other area of the grass field. Feedback received from my
painting group suggested that I place my brightest point next to the darkest point in my painting for ultimate contrast. Although I did not perfect this feedback in this painting, it is a lesson that I will remember and use to create future paintings.
