Artist's Comments: I have seen many triptych works in a vertical format with the subject spread horizontally over three canvases. On this piece, I wanted to experiment with a vertical triptych with each of the 3 canvases representing a different elevation from shore to mountain. I thought that it would be interesting to not only view the painting as one but, to also look at each canvas individually. This creates an abstract feeling as each canvas is a slice of the overall scene; yet individually they do not offer enough information to allow the user to interpret the scope. I enjoyed creating this format and would like to replicate the concept on a much, much larger scale.
